The Supply Room

For its 2019 “Legend of the Industry” Award, the Business Solutions Association (BSA) will honor Yancey Jones, a true industry leader.

“BSA is pleased to honor Yancey Jones as the 2019 Legend of the Industry,” said BSA President Barry Lane, Avery Products Corporation. “Yancey is truly an icon in our industry where he has worked for four decades.  Yancey will be joining us at the 2019 BSA Annual Forum where many of his friends and associates will be in the audience. We look forward to seeing him again this September in Minneapolis.”

Yancey S. Jones was born and raised in Ashland, Virginia.  After earning a degree in marketing, he honed his skills and gained business experience working for several years outside of the office products industry.  In 1978, he returned to his roots and when his father retired in 1981, Yancey purchased Meade & Company in Ashland, Virginia.  His acquisition of the family business would prove to be a turning point in a long and innovative career in office products.

In 1986, Meade & Company merged with two other companies to form The Supply Room Companies.  In 1987, the corporate name changed to Office America Inc., creating one of the nation's original office supply superstores. Yancey purchased The Supply Room from Office America, Inc. in 1988.

Since then The Supply Room has grown tremendously, acquiring nearly 40 companies throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, Maryland and DC. Guided by Yancey’s vision, each acquisition and merger was strategically designed to expand the company’s footprint and respond to the needs of customers. The acquisition of Frank Parsons in 2011 doubled the size of the company.

The Jones’ family of businesses continued to grow with the addition of Rudolph’s Office & Computer Supply in 2012 and Impact Office Supply in 2016. Jones serves as the Executive Vice President of The Supply Room.

Yancey is an active member of the Ashland community and his church, St. James the Less. He has served on the vestry and as Senior Warden for five terms.  He has been one of the assistant treasurer’s for over 30 years; and serves today as Chairman of the Finance committee. Yancey has championed the church’s food outreach ministry and founded the Hanover Food Ministry.

Jones and his wife Jane Jones live in Ashland, Virginia. He has two sons, Yancey Jr and Dutch, two daughter-in laws, Mai Anh and Lauren, along with five grandkids.

BSA established the “Legends” program in its effort to truly honor and recognize those individuals who have contributed so much to the industry. Jones will receive the honor at the special Legends of the Industry Luncheon during the BSA Annual Forum on Thursday, September 5 at The Renaissance, The Depot in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The BSA “Legends of the Luncheon” is included in the full registration package for the 2019 Annual Forum. For more information, contact BSA headquarters (Phone: 410-931-8100; Email: [email protected])
